How to learn a mathematical formula by visualizing

Have a mathematical formula made sense while you were learning. Have you always tried to learn a mathematical formula by recitation & byhearting? Have you thought you want a better way to remember a formula. An efficient way to understand a formula is by visualizing it.

Lets take an example of simple formula (a+b)3. We will consider a+b as the dimension of a side of a cube.

This cube will contain in itself 2 smaller cubes, one will be a3 and b3. It will also have some rectangular volumes. If you calculate these volumes the formula will be derived. (refer image below)

Visualizing a formula will help you understand the base from where the formula was developed. This will be registered in your mind forever. You can develop the formula from the same base, if the formula is not poping up in your mind in a snap.

Good luck.
